Getting Started

If you're interested in formation flying, Mooneys, and the best way to get to Oshkosh, you've come to the right place! The Mooney Caravan to Oshkosh is a group of pilots dedicated to safety in formation flying, and creating a great community around our amazing aircraft.
Our organization has three main elements: 1) our annual mass formation from Madison to Oshkosh for EAA AirVenture, 2) regional clinics where Mooney pilots practice formation techniques, and 3) an organization of pilots who connect year-round on topics around formation flying and Mooneys. Getting involved in the Mooney Caravan gives you access to all three.
The best way to start is to identify your local squadron. We have seven active squadrons across the US who organize within the local aviation community and create opportunities to practice Mooney formation flying together.
Find a squadron near you and look on our clinics page for upcoming practice opportunities. The description of each clinic is intended to be comprehensive, but if you have any questions or concerns whatsoever, reach out to the clinic organizer! Their contact information is on their squadron page and on each clinic registration page. The organizers are here to answer your questions, even (especially!) if you're new to what we do.
If you want to read more about formation flying, Pia Bergqvist wrote an article describing her experience flying with our Gunfighter Squadron in Arizona and Mooney Caravan leads Joker and Buzz. See the article on the Flying Magazine website.
Our website is packed with information on Caravan activities: dates and locations of regional clinics, formation flying techniques, our mailing list, FAQs, and information about the organization. To get started, click on the "Learn" tab on the left and get started with The Mooney Caravan. The slide deck at the bottom of this webpage is a great overview. Some of the material on this site is required reading for our clinics, and you'll likely find that the other pages will help you orient yourself in everything Mooney Caravan has to offer.
